We are a not-for-profit organization with a mission to bring about socio-economic transformation in the grassroots through the use of sustainable frontier technologies in dairy and fresh herbs.
Frontiers of Grassroots Sustainability (FoGS) Research & COnsultancy Centre is a global network of professional experts and stakeholders in Dairy and Fresh herbs value chain. We provide consultancy and research services to benchmark the frontiers in these areas globally and help for achieving self-reliance locally and competitive globally.
Having served as dairy economist, researcher and senior consultant in the non-government, government and private sectors for over 20 years , globally, Dr. Amit Saha, the founder of FOGS GLOBAL, was perplexed by the differences in accessibility and adoption of farm technologies by the average farmer. He has made innumerable presentations on dairy economics and farm development. The huge differences in technologies, productiveness and living standards of farming communities were the key issues. Annihilating these differences will be a critical factor to ensure sustainable food systems globally. Thus, FoGS was born, meaning "Frontiers of Grassroots Sustainability" .
Understanding the dynamics of the global environment, yet be rooted to the local is our strength. Having the right knowledge and knowing how to use it efficiently is a challenge that we solve for our customers using our unique frontier methods and network. The frontier methods have been developed by me over the years and is based on my PhD work I did in evaluating farming systems at Hohenheim University in Germany and NDRI Karnal in India using the Hierarchical cluster method, frontier analysis and goal programming.
Sustainable food systems for the future will need to ensure that there is a multi-sectoral development on three fronts - food, health and livelihoods. Hence our focus on milk and fresh medicinal herbs adoption of the latest farm technologies will help to achieve on these 3 fronts. Understanding and identifying the feasible frontier technologies in the food value chain for a given geo-spatial, political, socio-economic and cultural domain is the key factor to ensure sustainable food systems for the future.
